Bachelor of Ministry

The Bachelor of Ministry (BMin) prepares students for the practice of ministry. It establishes foundations for ministry through the study of scriptures, theological traditions, historical and contemporary contexts. It requires concentrated study in ministry praxis. The Bachelor of Ministry provides a foundation for graduates to understand and articulate their identity and place in the world. It may be possible for students to undertake study in a ministry setting as part of the course.

Course learning outcomes

Graduates of the Bachelor of Ministry:

  1. have a broad, coherent and critical knowledge of Christian theological traditions and methodologies, with focused knowledge in ministry studies.
  2. can articulate a coherent vision of ministry and communicate that vision through clear reasoned argument and demonstrated ability.
  3. are able to engage theological traditions and contemporary culture.
  4. have an informed basis for engagement, ministry and service.
  5. apply the skills of theological reflection to shape their practice of ministry.

Dual qualifications

A candidate may undertake the Bachelor of Ministry in combination with, or subsequent to, the Advanced Diploma in Theology and Ministry or Bachelor of Theology at the University of Divinity.

Advanced Diploma in Theology and Ministry

  • must achieve 288 points that comply with the course rules of the Advanced Diploma in Theology and Ministry
  • must achieve a further 144 points that comply with the course rules of the Bachelor of Ministry
  • To complete the second award, up to 144 points may be credited from the first award
  • The minimum time for completion of both awards is four years.

Bachelor of Theology

  • must achieve 288 points that comply with the course rules of the Bachelor of Ministry
  • must achieve a further 144 points that comply with the course rules of the Bachelor of Theology
  • To complete the second award, up to 288 points may be credited from the first award
  • Must not include more then 252 points at level 1
  • Must include at least 144 points at level 3, including at least 36 points in Mission and Ministry and at least 36 points in either Biblical Studies or Systematic Theology
  • May choose to complete one Capstone unit
  • The minimum time for completion of both awards is four years.

Admission criteria

Successful completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education in an Australian secondary school or the Diploma in Theology, or equivalent.

It may be possible for students to receive credit into their course for prior undergraduate study in related areas.
